He graduated from the University of California Berkeley Law School in 1995 with honors in Constitutional Law. After a summer clerkship with a Federal Bankruptcy Judge in 1997, he began practicing immigration law and continues to do so 15 years later.

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was passed by Congress to allow undocumented immigrants to report violent crimes without the fear of deportation.
